Vedder is the show puppy that was kept from our Venus x Cervelo litter from August 2016. So far, she is excelling beyond our wildest imaginations. She is incredibly smart and motivated to work for Bronwyn.
Vedder debuted in the show ring as a baby puppy, and in only her third show, she went Best Baby Puppy in Show, against a strong entry of over 35 other baby puppies! She has been on a break from the ring, due to timing of shows, in order to concentrate on socializing, obedience training and just hanging out with Bronwyn, Molson and her extended Weim family.
Vedder debuted in the "big dog" classes at 7 months old at the Ontario Breeders Association shows in March 2017. She was entered for 2 days and did extremely well, winning her Junior Puppy class (with competition), Winners (defeating 2 other girls), Best of Winners, Best Puppy in Breed and Best Breeder/Owner handled in breed. This gave her 2 points on Saturday under Judge David Gilmour, and 2 points again on Sunday under Judge Lee Anne Bateman. We thank the judges for finding our girl. See photo at the bottom with Judge David Gilmour. Vedder earned her Canine Good Neighbour at the Scarborough Kennel Club show in March 2017 at just over 7 months of age. Vedder finished her Canadian Championship in limited showing, only 4 weekends. She finished with all majors (2 or more points earned at a time), except one single point win. Her final 2 points came as a Best of Breed over a dog that was already a champion, under judge Lynda Saranchuk (below). Vedder will be out at shows selectively working towards her Grand Championship, but more of our focus will be on performance titles at this point.
She has a wonderful personality (although she does have the nickname Velociraptor) and is incredibly motivated. We are looking forward to experiencing new things with this girl, from conformation to out in the field, as well as hopefully some additional experiences in the Rally and Obedience rings. From our experience so far, it appears the sky is the limit with Vedder.
In true versatile fashion, Vedder went to one day of the South Western Ontario Sporting Breed Club show in July 2017 and she showed in both Rally Novice and Conformation. She took Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed in the Conformation ring, and also earned the first 2 legs of her Rally Novice title, all in the same day. Her first leg was extremely impressive as she took high in class with a score of 94! Vedder completed her Rally Novice title at the Muskoka & District Kennel Club shows in Gravenhurst on October 28, 2017. More training will commence to work towards higher level Rally.
On the August long weekend of 2017, Vedder showed in 4 shows at the Barrie Kennel Club show and earned another point towards her Grand Championship with 3 select awards. She was also entered in the GMDF Temperament Test, and, passed with flying colours, as the youngest dog in the test. So very proud of this solid and well-rounded girl, and excited for all the future plans.
Vedder earned her UKC Championship in one weekend with a group placement each show of the four shows. On the Saturday, Vedder earned a Group 3rd (6 breeds in the group) under Gregory Storms, and Group 2nd (5 breeds in the group) under Eleanor Heagy. On the Sunday, she earned a Group 2nd under Linda Philp (her required third competition win, group ring had 8 breeds), and a Group 3rd (7 breeds in the group) under David Kittredge for her final 25 points.
Vedder earned her Canadian Grand Championship, after taking a huge 4 point major Best of Opposite Sex win at the Cornwall Limited Group 1 Show on September 3rd, and taking 2 x Best of Opposites at the Oakville show (1 point on September 9, entered only in the Pointing Breed show, and 2 points on the Sunday in the WAC Booster). She completed the title in Fall 2017.
Vedder was out in the bird field in Summer 2017 and it paid off when she got her first two legs towards her Field Dog Junior (FDJ) title on September 16, 2017. She has a beautiful point. Vedder completed her FDJ title in May 2018, with three straight passes, and one extra leg since we were already entered!
From March 4, 2017 (when she started her official show career) to May 2018, Vedder has earned 7 titles. We are currently playing in agility and having lots of fun. We will also be playing in the AKC show ring on a limited basis in 2018 in pursuit of our American Championship.
In March 2019, Vedder earned both her Novice Trick Dog and Intermediate Trick Dog titles through Do More With Your Dog. We will be completing her Advanced and hopefully Expert Trick Dog titles when she finishes Maternity Leave, as well as be returning to hopefully AKC showing, the field, the dock, agility, and maybe some obedience. We have lots of fun things we want to be involved in!
Vedder has earned EIGHT titles in 2019. She completed her Advanced and Expert Trick Dog titles, earned her UKC Rally Level 1 (UR01) and SPOT-ON titles. She went to US Nationals in Ohio, and earned her Novice Shooting Dog, 2 legs towards her US Rally Novice title (including a 99 and second in class), and made the cut in a huge bred-by class at the regional specialty. This meant she was awarded a Tri-Athlete award which was so very exciting! Coming back to Canada, she earned her Rally Intermediate title with 3 straight qualifying runs.
This girl really embodies the versatile nature of the breed and we are so proud of her.
