August 2017

On August 5, 2017, the Pearl Jam litter (Venus x Cervelo) celebrated their first birthday.  It was a great day with Vedder and Hunter entered at the Barrie Kennel & Obedience Club show.  Hunter got his first 2-point win by going Best of Winners, and Best of Opposite over a top-ranked special.  Vedder earned another point by going Select which brought her up to 12 points.  Bronwyn also decided to be brave and show Vedder and Hunter as a Brace (for non-dog show people this means 2 dogs, one handler, and both dogs are shown on the same side with both leashes in one hand)! The two of them got Best Brace in Breed and Best Brace in Group. They showed very well in Best Brace in Show (pictured to the right).

We continued to show through the weekend, but there wasn't much competition, so we only earned points on the first day.

However, on August 7, 2018, Vedder was entered into a Temperament Test.  This is a very interesting test that looks at the reaction and recovery to various stimuli.  Vedder made me proud, passing every station with ease.

August 12 and 13 saw Vedder and Molson out in the bird field with Bronwyn.  We train at Pointblank dogs in Norwood, Ontario, and we also did some training at the Grand River NAVHDA chapter.  Great fun was had by all, and it is such a treat to watch Weimaraners do what they were bred to do - find and point birds.

The next weekend, we were down in Rockwood for the Grand River Kennel Club's UKC shows.  Vedder started and finished her UKC Championship in 4 shows, earning two Group 2nd and two Group 3rd placements.  Molson was entered as a Veteran, and he came away with a Best Veteran in Show award.

Throughout the month of August, the dogs and I also enjoyed some down time with my Dad, at his place and out on the boat.  Vedder was new to boating, but quickly found that she thoroughly enjoyed having the wind run through her ears - and would often stand right up at the front of the boat.

The end of August saw Bronwyn, Vedder and Hunter head of the the Weimaraner Association of Canada Regional Specialty and Booster, held in conjunction with the Cornwall Kennel Club shows.
