On September 16, 2017 we got up at the crack of dawn to drive to Pointblank Dogs for the Ontario All-Pointing Breed Field Dog Junior Tests. Molson achieved his final leg for his FDJ title. His new title is Official Couch Warmer as he is retired (save for occasional forays into the show ring as a Veteran). Now to figure out how to apply for his Versatility rating with the Weimaraner Association of Canada. Vedder was super duper awesome at her first test and earned her first 2 legs towards her FDJ title. Very proud of this silly girl who really impressed me - especially in her second test where she rocked 3 gorgeous points and even WHOA'd for me! Can't wait to get her back out in the spring! Molson - Can GCH/UKC CH/UKC BVIS/UR01 Instar's Simplee Canadian CGN RN TT FDJ. (7.5 years, owner handled for all performance and almost all CH/GCH points). Vedder - Can CH/UKC CH Wynder's Beneath The Waves CGN TT (now has 2 legs for both FDJ and RN, and only needs a single point for her CKC GCH). Always breeder/owner handled.

Great weekend at the Oakville show. Vedder was entered yesterday in the Pointing Breed limited breed show and got Best of Opposite for grand champion point number 17.
Today Vedder, Hunter and Molson were all entered in the WAC booster at Oakville. Vedder and Hunter were awesome, with Vedder earning a 2-point Best of Opposite win to put her at 19 Grand Champion points at a mere 13 months and 5 days of age. One more to go! She also won a very cool crate pad, which she will not be allowed to use unsupervised - because one of her two nicknames after all is Shredder (the other is Velociraptor...). Hunter debuted as a special with one of his favourite Junior Handlers on the lead - Audrey Harvey who got his first Grand Champion point with Select Dog. Mr. Grumpus (aka Molson) wanted to remind me that I have told him repeatedly that he is retired. Too bad for him I keep lying... we had fun though! LOL September 2017 - WAC Regional and Cornwall shows Vedder, Hunter and I traveled on Labour Day weekend to the Cornwall District Kennel Club show and Weimaraner Association of Canada Regional specialty and booster. Proud to announce we have a new Canadian Champion - CH Wynder's Yellow Ledbetter CGN (Hunter) who took Reserve Winners Dog at the specialty under breeder-judge Rosemary Shoreman, and Best of Winners x 2 on Sunday at the WAC Booster (under Rafael Malo Alcrudo) and the Pointing Breed Specialty (under Joyce Love). Special shout out to Jaydyn Patterson who helped out by taking Hunter into the breed ring (and getting Best of Winners with him twice, to finish his Championship!!!) Vedder also took a HUGE 4-point Best of Opposite Win under Joyce Love at the Pointing Breed Specialty as well as making the final cut for specials under breeder-judge Rosemary Shoreman at the Regional specialty. Vedder is now at 16 points towards her Grand Championship in very limited showing. August 2017 On August 5, 2017, the Pearl Jam litter (Venus x Cervelo) celebrated their first birthday. It was a great day with Vedder and Hunter entered at the Barrie Kennel & Obedience Club show. Hunter got his first 2-point win by going Best of Winners, and Best of Opposite over a top-ranked special. Vedder earned another point by going Select which brought her up to 12 points. Bronwyn also decided to be brave and show Vedder and Hunter as a Brace (for non-dog show people this means 2 dogs, one handler, and both dogs are shown on the same side with both leashes in one hand)! The two of them got Best Brace in Breed and Best Brace in Group. They showed very well in Best Brace in Show (pictured to the right). We continued to show through the weekend, but there wasn't much competition, so we only earned points on the first day. However, on August 7, 2018, Vedder was entered into a Temperament Test. This is a very interesting test that looks at the reaction and recovery to various stimuli. Vedder made me proud, passing every station with ease. August 12 and 13 saw Vedder and Molson out in the bird field with Bronwyn. We train at Pointblank dogs in Norwood, Ontario, and we also did some training at the Grand River NAVHDA chapter. Great fun was had by all, and it is such a treat to watch Weimaraners do what they were bred to do - find and point birds. The next weekend, we were down in Rockwood for the Grand River Kennel Club's UKC shows. Vedder started and finished her UKC Championship in 4 shows, earning two Group 2nd and two Group 3rd placements. Molson was entered as a Veteran, and he came away with a Best Veteran in Show award. Throughout the month of August, the dogs and I also enjoyed some down time with my Dad, at his place and out on the boat. Vedder was new to boating, but quickly found that she thoroughly enjoyed having the wind run through her ears - and would often stand right up at the front of the boat. The end of August saw Bronwyn, Vedder and Hunter head of the the Weimaraner Association of Canada Regional Specialty and Booster, held in conjunction with the Cornwall Kennel Club shows. June/July Update June and July were months of limited showing, but also new experiences. We were in the show ring a total of 4 days for the 2 months and did pretty well. Vedder was entered in the Ontario All Pointing Breed Field Dog Club Specialty Show and showed very well for her first outdoor show ever. However, we did not earn any points. Later that day in the Erie Shores All Breed show, she was awarded a 2 point Select by judge G. Marquis. On June 10, both she and Hunter debuted in the field for the first time and did very well. Hunter is a complete natural, and Vedder quickly warmed up to the experience. Molson was also out in the bird field for some additional training - we are hoping to complete his FDJ title in the Fall. He only needs one more leg. On June 11, both went to the Ontario County show and showed very well. Vedder earned a 2 point Select Bitch award, and Hunter was great after winning Best Canadian Bred in Breed and showing in the Canadian Bred group with his Mom Lisa. On July 2, they both went to the Kawartha Kennel Club show. Vedder showed in both shows and earned a pair of Selects each worth one point. Hunter showed in the afternoon show only, and showed very well, but did not earn points. He did however, get Best Puppy in Breed over his sister. Vedder was entered in the South Western Ontario Sporting Dog Club for the Sunday only. She earned a 2 point Best of Breed in the conformation ring, as well as showing extremely well in the adult group, and making it to a show down in Puppy Group against a Golden under judge Brian Taylor. Unfortunately it was not meant to be, but runner-up in a large puppy group at a specialty is nothing to sneeze at! Vedder also debuted in the performance ring and took her first leg with a score of 94 and a high in class. She earned her second rally leg with a 75 and second in class - both trials were under judge Del Lunn. I was very proud and impressed with her as it was a lot to ask of an 11 month old puppy! Hunter is at 5 points towards his championship, and Vedder is at 11 points with her Best of Breed towards her Grand Championship. These pups are both turning out to be extremely smart, and very versatile. |
