June/July Update June and July were months of limited showing, but also new experiences. We were in the show ring a total of 4 days for the 2 months and did pretty well. Vedder was entered in the Ontario All Pointing Breed Field Dog Club Specialty Show and showed very well for her first outdoor show ever. However, we did not earn any points. Later that day in the Erie Shores All Breed show, she was awarded a 2 point Select by judge G. Marquis. On June 10, both she and Hunter debuted in the field for the first time and did very well. Hunter is a complete natural, and Vedder quickly warmed up to the experience. Molson was also out in the bird field for some additional training - we are hoping to complete his FDJ title in the Fall. He only needs one more leg. On June 11, both went to the Ontario County show and showed very well. Vedder earned a 2 point Select Bitch award, and Hunter was great after winning Best Canadian Bred in Breed and showing in the Canadian Bred group with his Mom Lisa. On July 2, they both went to the Kawartha Kennel Club show. Vedder showed in both shows and earned a pair of Selects each worth one point. Hunter showed in the afternoon show only, and showed very well, but did not earn points. He did however, get Best Puppy in Breed over his sister. Vedder was entered in the South Western Ontario Sporting Dog Club for the Sunday only. She earned a 2 point Best of Breed in the conformation ring, as well as showing extremely well in the adult group, and making it to a show down in Puppy Group against a Golden under judge Brian Taylor. Unfortunately it was not meant to be, but runner-up in a large puppy group at a specialty is nothing to sneeze at! Vedder also debuted in the performance ring and took her first leg with a score of 94 and a high in class. She earned her second rally leg with a 75 and second in class - both trials were under judge Del Lunn. I was very proud and impressed with her as it was a lot to ask of an 11 month old puppy! Hunter is at 5 points towards his championship, and Vedder is at 11 points with her Best of Breed towards her Grand Championship. These pups are both turning out to be extremely smart, and very versatile.
