Hunter (CH Wynder's Yellow Ledbetter CGN) came out to play at the Caledon show as a special yesterday and today.
Yesterday he showed well but no love in a gorgeous line up!
Today he went Select for 1 point in the All- Breed under Judge J. Stacy. This morning in the Group 1 Limited Breed show he took Best of Opposite for 2 points! He sits at 4 now and has only been out as a special 5 times, and only 15 months.
Well 2 weeks to the day after losing Shadow, we now say goodbye to Titan, our loving, goofy old boy. Titan came to our family as a breeder return/rescue. He was an underweight and extremely food-aggressive (related to the underweight thing...), 8 year old - but we diligently worked with him and got him rehabilitated successfully.
We got to experience Titan in all his goofy sweetness for 7 years and he really was a Titan in everything that he did. Titan knew how to open paddle handle doors, so when he moved in with Dad, Dad had to replace all of the handles on exterior doors. Then we learned that he also had the talent to open round door handles, so after going to play with the Hydro linesman, Dad installed deadbolts on all exterior doors. That seemed to keep that silly boy contained.
Titan enjoyed long walks in the forest with Dad and his best buddy Shadow. He loved swimming, and was happy and demanding until his last moments. He smiled and had the quirkiest grin he would show everyone he could, teeth mostly gone and two wrinkled ears. Although he was very much still present, despite selective deafness (he could hear you open the cookies, but not if you called his name), his body in the end betrayed him, and we made the choice to help him cross with dignity.
Titan helped to raise Molson, and also Vedder, although all of the puppies learned his bark was worse than his “bite” – because he never followed through they took full advantage of him. He snuggled with the cats, and was always hanging out with Dad – who was his person. He always wanted to know where Dad was, and nothing made him happier than getting to go for a ride in the truck.
Rest in Peace Titan – September 24, 2002 – October 10, 2017. Shadow is waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge, buddy, and she will be ready to keep you company (and in line) over there.
Last night we lost Shadow very suddenly. In true Shadow style, she went on her own terms as we were preparing to ease her suffering, in the company of myself and Dad, at the vet's office.
She was my first dog and my first Weimaraner (even though my Dad was always her person). The last several years she lived with my Dad and lived the best possible life a dog could have. She was opinionated, stubborn and the sweetest, snuggliest girl. She was the first dog I almost completely finished myself, and my real introduction into this crazy world of dog showing - I had dabbled a bit with some other dogs, including her mother. She was a cross of my two favourite dogs at that time, Aero and Tyco.
I adored Shadow even though she was an epic brat, who at the age of 2.5 decided she no longer deigned to be crated and destroyed every crate or pen I attempted to put her in. She would not touch anything once she had freed herself, except occasional kleenex boxes and remotes, and one time, a brand new unopened bag of flour from the cupboard - she held grudges like nobody's business and even though you never knew when she was going to reward you for whatever indignity she felt she had suffered, you sure knew when she had.
She was the first dog that I knew to smile at me, and she had so much character. Shadow and I got her Canine Good Neighbour and she started me wanting to do more with my dogs.
She raised Molson for his formative first year - and did a wonderful job - before she went to live with Dad and Titan and keep Titan in line, when I had to move back home with Mum - Shadow and Ripley were not each other's favourites, even though they were half sisters.
She went through many tough times with me and my family, and she was brave and loving and stubborn and smart.
Rest in peace my dear girl, Do-Do, Dozer, Dozie. Love you to the ends of the earth and we will meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.
